Lyden Moon "Fire It Up" CD
Lyden Moon’s 4th CD “Fire It Up” on M.A.C.E. Records was Produced by Drummer “Fillet” and Co Produced by Lyden and Michael Angelo Batio. The first track “Let’s Rock” starts off with a thundering rhythm “riff”, then breaks into a very heavy, melodic, funk groove. It goes through a second change around the 3 minute mark that is a nice, stark contrast to the opening “riff”. Lyden ends the song with a blazing fast, Alternate picking run. The second song “Extreme” has a mid tempo, very syncopated verse, then breaks into a great Chorus melody. This Chorus melody is reminiscent of classic Joe Satriani or Eric Johnson lead lines. Lyden displays some intense tapping “licks” in another section of the song then comes back to that great chorus melody. We feel that “Fire It Up” is Lyden Moon’s best CD yet. “Fillet” is an incredible Drummer, always coming up with creative beats and interesting, highly technical “fills”. The production is first rate. Also, Lyden has grown tremendously as a songwriter. Every song on this CD has vicious Rhythm grooves and “catchy” melodic lines in abundance. Lyden focuses on the phrasing and the flow of the melody throughout the songs but he is not afraid to let it “shred” and does so in a world class way. Bassist Joel Thierfelder wrote the song “Inside Out” on the CD. This is the perfect showcase for his playing. It starts with a somber Bass groove, then at about 1:30 into the song Joel plays some great tapping patterns over a layered keyboard background. In conclusion, this is an incredible CD. Lyden’s signature Lead Guitar sound is there and his “chops” have gotten even better!

Lyden Moon "Supersonic Musical Voyage" CD
Lyden's second CD is an all instrumental offering that showcases not only Lyden's formidable guitar talent but also his skill as a songwriter. Again, Michael Angelo Batio performs on this CD but on classical guitar in an incredible "outside" solo in the song "Blue Balls". Lyden's band consisting of Joel Theirfelder on Bass Guitar and new drummer Mark "Fillet" Altergott both play great on this CD. The CD starts out with "Joels Groove Thing". The song has an awesome groove to it as the title suggests. Lyden plays a very memorable melody but again throughout this song as well as the whole CD "shreds" with the best of them. This second CD shows that Lyden is here to stay. In addition to this Lyden has another guest performer that played on the disc. L.A.'s Marc Bonilla lends his incredible guitar talent on a solo in Da Cubed (track 8) to add the finishing touches to this great record.

Lyden Moon "In the Groove" CD
Guitar great Lyden Moon has released his third CD on M.A.C.E. Records. "In the Groove" is an intense collection of wonderfully crafted instrumental guitar songs. Great melodies and as the title says "grooves" are in abundance on this disc. What makes Lyden stand out from so many of his peers is his ability to write a great melody and play it with conviction and a GREAT guitar tone. His tone is one of his trademarks. Laced between the melodies are full "shred", "balls to the walls", lightning fast passages that will make any guitar music lover grin. Lyden has "one upped" his other 2 CDs in every way. The performance and song writing are first rate, the production is major league and the packaging is great. Michael Angelo Batio performs a guest appearance on Lyden's CD. Lyden and Michael trade riffs in a spectacular display of guitar artistry. This CD rocks from beginning to end and is a great addition to anyone's instrumental guitar CD collection.

Kopecky "Serpentine Kaleidoscope" CD
Kopecky's second outing essentially continues the formula presented on their eponymous debut. It is significantly heavier and darker than its predecessor, and many will lament the diminished presence of the Sitar, which only makes a single appearance. My favorite cut, "Smoke of Her Burning" features snaking in your face fretless bass guitar and Joe's characteristic staccato yet fluid guitar riffage. As usual the band stays with a heavy groove long enough for you to taste it, then whirls off capriciously. An unexpected piece, "These White Walls" is kind of a response to the inability of many "bar" and "clubgoers" to deal with an all instrumental band. Kopecky produced this a cappella orgy of psychotic and demonic voices chanting or screaming "these white walls" in various rhythms. Not what your average clubgoer had in mind! The result is a frightening picture of insanity- but one that you have to be in the right mood to listen to. Perhaps establishing a tradition beginning with their first album, this CD presents another great moody poem set to music. The spacey, sitar-drenched sounds supporting "I Was Home and I Wept" is like an unsettling version of The Beatles "Within You Without You". The powerful "Wings of Asphyxia" breaks up the similarity of some of the remaining tracks, evoking a strong aural image of a god hammering on the dome of the sky, generating huge explosions of violent sound. Each explosion is followed by the glassy twinkling shards of the sky falling to the earth. There's never any real "melody", and it closes in a cacophonous blaze as the end of the world nears. For the newcomer I recommend the remarkable debut CD as well as this one. I'm sure you'll be hooked by their unique sound. And see them live if possible. Their tightness is so breathtaking, you'd think these guys were brothers.

Kopecky "Orion" CD
Kopecky's third CD, Orion, was recorded live in Baltimore, MD as part of Orion Sound Studios' Progressive Rock Showcase series. Filled with heavy space grooves, the second track, "Smoke Of Her Burning", features snaking, in-your-face fretless bass guitar and Joe Kopecky's characteristic staccato, yet fluid, guitar riffage. As usual the band stays with a heavy groove long enough for you to taste it, then whirls off capriciously. "Bartholomew's Kite" includes an initial section that recalls of some passages of the wonderful Xaal, that is to say, rock-fusion-zeuhl progressive of a high level. The guitar is splendid, and the work of the three musicians' group is very expansive. "Heaven's Black Amnesia" features a musical crescendo that moves from the dogmas of progressive rock-fusion to continuously increase the decibels and the ambience. An exotic hard rock live treat. Michael Angelo Batio mastered the CD.

Florent Atem “Dreamtown” CD
After making a name for himself both in Tahiti and Hawaii, Tahitian guitar player, singer and songwriter Florent Atem was contacted in 2003 by John Cuniberti (The Dead Kennedys, Joe Satriani) who expressed interest in working with him. The recordings took place at The Plant Studios in Sausalito, California, with a band featuring Florent Atem, his sister Carole Atem as well as some of the world's finest musicians: drummer Jeff Campitelli (Joe Satriani) and bass players Michael Manring and Matt Bissonette (Joe Satriani, Ringo Starr, Don Henley, Brian Wilson, David Lee Roth, Christopher Cross…). Entitled Dreamtown, the album features all original material by Florent, ranging from guitar-driven pieces to radio-friendly tunes in a pop/rock format.
Now aged 22 and 25, Carole & Florent ATEM have already established a solid reputation both in Tahiti and Hawaii where they recorded four albums with Grammy-winning producer Bob St John (Prince, Extreme…), who also contributed to the making of Dreamtown. When in Hawaii, the young Tahitian duo share the stage with Hawaiian legend Henry Kapono (from Cecilio & Kapono), who views them as "the most impressive young artists".
In May '05, they also had the pleasure to welcome Jeff Campitelli, Michael Manring, John Cuniberti and Bob St John in Tahiti for two highly successful shows broadcast on television in the South Pacific and even in France. A few years ago, Chicago-based guitar hero Michael Angelo Batio praised both Florent's playing and songwriting; today, John Cuniberti himself views Florent Atem as "the new Joe Satriani" - with a style of his own.
